The 10 Most Read Articles of 2023

  • 04 January 2024

While we are in the midst of preparing for the first edition of Vakblad Voedingsindustrie 2024, we would like to take a moment to look back at the most read articles from last year. The following articles were the most read on the website and through our social media channels in 2023!

1. Compaxo saves 70 per cent gas in partnership with LTI

19 June 2023 | There is quite a lot going on in the meat and meat products industry. It is no exaggeration to say that the sector is under pressure. Compaxo Group, the company owned by the Van der Post family for the past 127 years, chooses to be transparent for this very reason. "We started this gas-saving story before the energy crisis began," he said.

2. Hessing Supervers ready for the future

22 March 2023 | Five million (!) packages will soon roll off the conveyor belt in Hessing Supervers' new Groente VersFabriek (vegetable fresh factory) in Greenport Venlo. To bolster that, the company is reinvesting in a series of fully automated packaging lines from GEA: for even more capacity and efficiency.

3. Audits: bizarre requirements, red tape and stress

19 June 2023 | It's nerve-wracking when an audit is about to take place. Quickly putting together the latest risk assessments, preparing source-cause analyses and urging the management to prepare the management review themselves this time. Most of the anxiety is felt by companies that are not quite audit-proof, or have only recently entered the circus of BRC and/or IFS food safety schemes.

4. Compaxo: Processing meat deserves appreciation

25 April 2023 | Meat is currently under a magnifying glass. Unfortunately not always in a positive sense. Yet many meat processors continue to put their heart and soul into providing others with a good piece of meat every day. In a clean and well-functioning working environment made by and for hard workers.

5. 'Meat successors are under a magnifying glass'

21 March 2023 | Sales figures seem to be stagnating and the debate about low nutritional values is boiling over. Nevertheless, the Jan Zandbergen Group, one of the largest meat suppliers in Europe, is fully committed to meat substitutes. Laurens Zandbergen, grandson of the founder and marketing manager of the company, explains their approach.

6. Van Geloven: Lots of cheese, good crust, little dust

11 September 2023 | A tasty snack is partly characterized by a nice crispy crust. But applying a good, even breadcrumb layer while limiting dust formation and waste is no easy task. Van Geloven Cuijk therefore purchased the latest GEA CrumbMaster.

7. Microbiological challenges plant-based alternatives

15 May 2023 | Globally, the market for plant-based dairy and meat alternatives is growing. Little is known about the specific microbiological hazards for applications of plant-based ingredients in new product formulations. Predictive models fall short for the time being. Time for more research.

8. Sea Fresh Retail: More certainty, less disinfectant

27 November 2023 | Those who supply to retail must have their business in excellent order: sustainability certifications, the ability to deliver quickly, and perfect hygiene. Sea Fresh Retail meets all these criteria with flying colours.

9. Zero downtime, maximum output at Simons Halal

20 March 2023 | As a food producer today, you face many challenges. How can you still achieve maximum output? Simons Halal Food chose a Repak packaging machine that increases efficiency, has minimal downtime and is easy for everyone to work with.

10. Renovating or building conditioned spaces with K.I.M.

23 June 2023 | Almost nowhere is the need for hygiene as great as in the food industry. Moreover, temperatures, oxygen levels, CO₂ levels and humidity conditions must be perfectly balanced to ensure product quality and a long shelf life.
