Lamb Weston/Meijer, a leading manufacturer of high-quality potato products, is well on the way to achieving its sustainability targets for 2020. Compared to the benchmark year of 2008, the company uses 21 percent less energy per ton of product, for example, and the potato utilisation rate has improved by 4.5 percent. Each year more than 3.7 million road miles (over 6 million kilometres) are saved thanks to more transport by water and rail. Furthermore, Lamb Weston/Meijer fries over 82 percent of its products in a healthier type of cooking oil. This results in an annual reduction of 9.6 million kilograms worth of unsaturated fats in its products. The entire report can be found online on the potato-product manufacturer’s website.
