‘Forgotten meat’ in the spotlight

  • 07 February 2017

During Grüne Woche in Berlin, Dutch State Secretary Van Dam (Economic Affairs, Agriculture) accepted the Dutch pork chain’s sustainable Schlachtplatte (platter of ‘forgotten meat’), presented by Platform Varkensvleesketen which is a collaborative partnership between the Central Organisation for the Meat Sector (COV), the Dutch Association of Pig Farmers (POV) and the Dutch Feed Industry Association (Nevedi). The platform presented the platter in acknowledgement of the State Secretary’s wish for carcass balance to also be focused on internal European markets rather than on the ‘third countries’ only. There must be a good (sustainable) destination for everything from the pig (carcass), including by helping to restore ‘forgotten meat’ products to their rightful place in core markets such as the Netherlands and Germany.
