Questionmark launches reporting center for deceptive food claims

  • 01 December 2023

The Questionmark Foundation has launched a reporting center to combat alleged misleading sustainability claims on food products. This initiative stems from the organization's desire to conduct thorough investigations into potential false assertions and thereby reveal the truth behind product labels.

At this brand-new reporting center, consumers are encouraged to report suspicious claims made by producers. The ultimate goal? To map out the claims of food companies and conduct in-depth research. Questionmark Foundation is even prepared to file complaints with the Advertising Code Committee (RCC) if necessary, collaborating closely with the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature, and Food Quality (LNV). The foundation aims to release a detailed report on these dubious claims by 2024.

While individuals theoretically can file complaints with the RCC, in practice, it is a complex process seldom undertaken. More often, it is organizations, NGOs, or companies that take this step. Remarkably, in 2022, 95 out of the 686 complaints filed with the RCC were related to food and beverages, underscoring the urgency of this initiative."
