The world’s first cultivated meat farm has officially opened its doors. In Schipluiden, RespectFarms welcomed visitors from several European countries for the inauguration of the facility located on the dairy farm of Corné van Leeuwen.
Those attending included farmers, researchers, policymakers, entrepreneurs, investors, and representatives from the food industry. RespectFarms also received messages of support from abroad. The opening highlighted the international interest in new approaches to food production.
The site has been established as a demonstration and learning environment. Visitors can see how cultivated meat production can be combined with an existing farming operation.
According to RespectFarms, the farm is intended to develop into a place where different stakeholders can come together. Co-founder Ralf Becks described the site as an environment where farmers, researchers, companies, policymakers, students, and citizens can meet and exchange ideas about the future of agriculture.
The opening featured contributions from, among others, Mark Post, co-founder of Mosa Meat, and Koert van Mensvoort, founder of Next Nature Network. Their presentations focused on the relationship between technology, food production, and society.
South Holland provincial deputies Meindert Stolk and Aad Straathof were also in attendance. They emphasized the importance of collaboration between agriculture, industry, research institutions, and government when developing new solutions for future food-related challenges.
The farm will remain open in the coming period to visitors, delegations, educational groups, policymakers, and companies interested in learning more about cultivated meat production on farms.
