Nourish Ingredients opens commercial hub in Leiden

  • 06 October 2025

Australian company Nourish Ingredients is opening a global commercial hub in Leiden. From its base at BioPartner 5, the company aims to strengthen its position in Europe and work more closely with food manufacturers.

European expansion

Nourish Ingredients develops animal-free fats through precision fermentation. These fats give plant-based and hybrid foods an authentic dairy or meat taste. With the new location, the company gains access to Europe’s food production ecosystem and funding opportunities for sustainable food innovation.

BioPartner 5 will host facilities for product development, demonstrations and commercial operations. The building is the first energy-neutral laboratory in the Netherlands and aligns with the Paris Climate Agreement. Co-founder and CTO Anna El Tahchy has relocated to the Netherlands to lead the company’s European operations.

New neighbours

The location places Nourish Ingredients next to Vivici, supported by dsm-firmenich and Fonterra, which develops animal-free dairy proteins. “When innovative companies focused on sustainable food solutions work together, it creates great opportunities for knowledge sharing,” says Vivici CEO Stephan van Sint Fiet.

Nourish Ingredients expects its Dutch facility to be fully operational in 2026, followed by an official opening event including tastings.

According to Thijs De Kleer, director of BioPartner, the arrival of Nourish Ingredients fits well with the mission of the Leiden Bio Science Park: “Fermentation demonstrates how life sciences and food innovation reinforce each other.”
