Favamole, a fresh alternative to guacamole made from Dutch fava beans, has won first prize at the Kick Start Show. This event, held on March 12 at HAS Green Academy, gives young food entrepreneurs a platform to present their innovative products.
Founder Andres Jara sees this victory as confirmation of his product’s potential. The jury praised the dip’s creativity and flavor, recognizing its market opportunities. Jara received a cash prize of €2,500, personal mentoring, a custom-made commercial, and an invitation to the exclusive partner dinner on May 20.
Second place went to business students from Hanze University of Applied Sciences with their concept Brew’d Bites: bitterballen made from brewers’ grain. This team, represented by Kaspers Buursma and Bram Fledderus, won €1,500 and also received personal guidance from an expert. Third place was awarded to Jubl, a chickpea-based chocolate spread developed by Isil Dijkstra and Melis Kolyozyan. Their spread contains 40% less sugar than regular chocolate spreads and was rewarded with €1,000 and a mentoring session.
Beyond the winners, several other participants stood out. Laura from Suckers B.V. received an encouragement award for her sugar-free lollipops with added vitamins and plastic-free packaging. Other promising concepts, such as Zatisfyer, Ti-Ta-Thema Takkenspel, and Brood Pasta, showcased the innovative spirit of young entrepreneurs. The Kick Start Show is part of the ‘Foodconnectors van de Toekomst’ program, which aims to drive innovation in the food industry.
