Marcel Mérieux was the founder of Institut Mérieux in 1897, and a pupil of Louis Pasteur. Nowadays, with the fourth generation of Mérieux at the helm, the company is still a unique family business which has built its success on the production of diagnostic equipment and food-testing laboratories.
The laboratory in Ede has a rich history. The current name dates from 2000, when the US company Silliker (founded in 1967) acquired two Dutch laboratories and set up a new lab in Ede. Institut Mérieux, which was already the major shareholder, founded a separate division called NutriSciences in 2011 for its global laboratory activities. As of 1 November, the lab in Ede will also operate under that name. It is time to bid farewell to Silliker and welcome Mérieux NutriSciences in its place.
