Automation keeps operations reliable at Bakker Schat

  • 15 September 2025

In the food industry, even a minor error can lead to serious consequences. A mislabelled product or missing allergen information poses health risks for consumers and leads to costly recalls for producers. For Bakker Schat—an independent industrial bakery in Soest delivering fresh bread to thousands of customers daily—the risks became unacceptable. To ensure consistent quality and safety, the bakery partnered with De Koningh Coding | Labeling | Inspection to safeguard and streamline its production process.

De Koningh helps manufacturers automate and monitor their packaging and labelling processes. While traditional printers and manual checks leave room for human error, De Koningh supplies systems that combine accuracy with efficiency. For Bakker Schat, this meant transitioning from a manual, error-prone method to a fully automated and controlled solution.

Challenges at Bakker Schat

Bakker Schat’s labelling and packaging process was largely manual. Operators placed bread bags on the line and entered expiration dates using an outdated inkjet printer. In a high-pressure production environment with many similar-looking packages, mistakes happened easily—such as incorrect or missing allergen details. As a result, the bakery had to rely entirely on manual quality control.

e-SolarMark C350 laser: consistently sharp marking

Traditional cartridge-based printers wear out over time and offer no way to verify print quality, increasing the risk of faded or illegible markings. De Koningh replaced the existing setup with the e-SolarMark C350 laser from Solaris—a continuous, maintenance-free system. No ink, no wear, no faded text: every code is sharp and accurate.

In addition, De Koningh linked the correct product data directly to the correct production line, so it’s always clear which information applies to which product. An on-screen interface shows instantly whether product and packaging match. With integrated Pack-Check software, every package is checked in real time and any discrepancies are flagged immediately. The result is a fully closed system that structurally prevents human error.

Results at Bakker Schat

The new solution supports operators at every step of the process, making errors highly unlikely. The system monitors every stage and ensures coding and labelling are always correct. Product recalls are now a thing of the past, and consumers can rely on accurate allergen information.

Peter Poorta of Bakker Schat explains:

“We now have full control over our process. Our staff can focus on baking, while the technology from De Koningh and the Solaris laser ensures our packaging and labelling are always right. That gives both us and our customers a lot of confidence.”

Reliable processes with De Koningh

De Koningh’s approach shows that they don’t just resolve problems—they prevent them from happening in the first place. For Bakker Schat, this has led to a safer, more efficient, and future-proof production process.
