A crate filled with Dutch products was presented to Minister of Agriculture Femke Wiersma as a welcome gift during the third edition of NLvoedt, held on 1 July at Nieuwspoort. The event marked the end of the political season and brought together MPs, ministers, NGOs, media, and other guests around one central message: food is of fundamental importance.
Outgoing minister Wiersma highlighted the broader significance of food in times of international tension. “We’ve just come out of the NATO summit. One clear takeaway was that food is the foundation of everything,” she stated. According to Wiersma, the Netherlands is exceptionally well positioned to produce food—and that comes with responsibility. “We are not just a link in the chain; we’re truly an anchor when it comes to food production.”
After the opening remarks by LTO chairman Ger Koopmans, Toine Timmermans of the foundation Together Against Food Waste took the floor. He stressed the importance of collaboration, chain-wide innovation, and full use of raw materials. “Above all, let’s make sure this remains possible while safeguarding a healthy profit for the businesses in these chains.”
Koopmans underlined the strength behind the initiative: “Dozens of member organisations and many thousands of businesses stand behind NLvoedt.” In his view, the sector deserves attention—and appreciation. “And this minister has supported the recognition of our sectors, both in word and deed.”
NLvoedt is an initiative by GroentenFruit Huis, ZuivelNL, NEPLUVI, LTO Nederland, COV and others.
