Westfort Meat Products has announced that starting from early next year, they will expand their range with the launch of pre-packaged pork and beef products, specifically targeting the consumer market. In light of this expansion, the current facility in Oudewater is undergoing a thorough modernization, with the implementation of state-of-the-art technologies. The updated pre-packaging facility is expected to be operational at the beginning of 2024, creating employment opportunities for about 60 skilled workers.
This recent development in Oudewater signifies a natural progression in Westfort's business growth, following the completion of the sophisticated slaughter and processing facility in IJsselstein the previous year. With the integration of the most up-to-date packaging systems, the newly formed business unit will be capable of smoothly and proactively responding to the changing trends and demands of the retail market. This initiative represents a strategic move by Westfort to shorten the supply chain and create a more direct connection with the consumer, thereby solidifying its market position and maximizing the value derived from the whole animal. This strategy not only ensures the continuity of the supply chain but also contributes to a robust business operation.
Egbert Kruiswijk, Commercial Director and co-owner of Westfort, shares his excitement about the significant investment coinciding with the company's tenth anniversary since its founding in 2013. With the investments in Oudewater, essential progress within the chain is being made. Kruiswijk is convinced that this development will strengthen the chain's position, including that of pig farmers, and will meet the current and future demands from the retail sector.
