Verpact: Future-Proof Alliance for Packaging

In an ambitious move toward a more sustainable future, Waste Packaging Fund and execution organizations Nedvang, KIDV, and Nederland Schoon unite their forces under the name 'Verpact,' effective January 1, 2024. This merger, operational from March 1, signifies a strategic initiative to stay ahead of the growing legal requirements for producers and importers of packaged products.

Verpact positions itself as a modern pact focused on closing the packaging loop. By emphasizing the preservation of scarce resources for the Netherlands, the organization aims for an effective and efficient setup of the packaging chain. The mission includes promoting recyclable packaging, efficient collection systems, innovation in recycling, and reusable packaging, with the ultimate goal of achieving fully circular packaging by 2050.

Assisting the Transition to a Closed Loop

According to Hester Klein Lankhorst, Verpact's CEO, transitioning to a closed loop is challenging but crucial. The organization aspires to bring about this societal change through collaboration and support from relevant parties in the chain. Verpact remains legally responsible for organizing and financing the collection and recycling of packaging waste, combating litter, managing deposits, and advising on sustainable packaging.

Verpact: One Point of Contact for Producers and Importers

With Verpact, producers and importers of packaging gain a single point of contact. The merger also retains Nederland Schoon's campaigns against litter and the objective advice from KIDV regarding sustainable packaging. Statiegeld Nederland remains a separate governing entity. Verpact's leadership, led by CEO Hester Klein Lankhorst, includes directors for Finance, Strategy, Knowledge & Innovation, and Operations, supported by a Supervisory Board with representatives from the packaging industry.
