Too Good To Go has saved 40 million meals in the Netherlands. The app reached this milestone eight years after its launch. More than 13,500 businesses have now joined the platform. According to Too Good To Go, these meals could feed everyone in Utrecht for 35 days. The organization based this calculation on three meals per resident per day.
More than 5.7 million people in the Netherlands have downloaded the app. That is approximately one in three Dutch residents. Around 18 million meals were saved during the first five years. More than 22 million were added over the next three years. This means the rate of growth has more than doubled.
Partners range from local bakeries and restaurants to supermarkets. Hotels and other businesses also offer their surplus food. PLUS, Bakker van Maanen and Ekoplaza have participated since 2018. Makro and Bakkerij Voncken followed in 2019.
Bakery products account for approximately 45% of all meals saved. This category includes bread, pastries and other baked goods. Groceries and supermarket products follow at approximately 41%. Prepared meals account for around 11%.
Bread is a fresh product with a short shelf life. This makes it one of the most commonly wasted products. According to Too Good To Go, the saved meals avoided approximately 108,000 metric tons of CO2e. That equals the per-passenger emissions from more than 77,000 flights between Amsterdam and New York.
In 2025, people in the Netherlands discarded an average of 25.5 kilograms of solid food at home. That is almost 30% less than in 2015. Even so, approximately one meal per person still goes to waste each week. This represents a value of around €100 per person annually.
