Smilde Bakery, part of the family-owned Royal Smilde group, has acquired De Maro from Berkel-Enschot. Both companies see the move as a logical next step. Together, they aim to build a future-proof bakery group that continues to grow and innovate. The partnership strengthens their position in the market and brings both additional production capacity and new opportunities.
For owner Bart Snijders, the acquisition feels like a natural continuation of years of hard work. “I have built De Maro with great dedication from a young age and see plenty of opportunities for further growth,” he says. “Smilde Bakery enables us to innovate, scale up, and internationalize more quickly. This way, we safeguard the continuity of De Maro and the future of our employees.”
De Maro will continue operating from Berkel-Enschot with the entire team in place. No one will lose their job, and employment conditions will remain unchanged. The integration will take place gradually, with attention to collaboration and personal development within the Smilde group.
The connection between the two companies was there from the start. “As family businesses, we speak the same language: that of craftsmanship, commitment, and ambition,” says Alex Kruiter, Managing Director of Smilde Bakery. “De Maro brings passion and entrepreneurship, while Smilde Bakery provides the strength and resources to grow further. Together, we’re building a future where tradition and innovation go hand in hand – with one goal: to make the bakery trade stronger than ever.”
