Butchers can anticipate an annual trade fair, thanks to a collaboration between Slavakto Foundation and Stichting Foodspecialiteiten (Specialty Foods Foundation). This alliance results in a more comprehensive fresh produce fair for specialty retailers. The Vakbeurs Foodspecialiteiten (Specialty Food Trade Fair) is scheduled for Monday, September 30th, and Tuesday, October 1st, at Expo Houten, with the original Slavakto event, planned for October 14th and 15th in Utrecht, being canceled.
Initially, Slavakto Foundation planned to organize the fair biennially, partly prompted by the discontinuation of the Northern Butchers Manifestation and the VAS Fair. However, thanks to the new collaboration, there will be an annual gathering and source of inspiration for the butcher industry once again.
The butcher's profession is continually evolving, with a growing assortment of convenience products and innovations. The collaboration provides an opportunity to meet the need for knowledge and inspiration within the industry. This aligns seamlessly with broader developments within the fresh produce sectors, such as blurring and ready-to-eat.
The Royal Dutch Butchers (KNS) and Trade Centre for Independent Retail Entrepreneurs underline the value of this collaboration. The revamped format of the fair offers their members a broader source of information and inspiration, contributing to the healthy development of artisanal fresh produce specialists.
The Slavakto trade competitions retain their place and become a vital part of the Specialty Food Trade Fair. This includes space for artisanally prepared products from various kitchens. Opening the trade competitions to specialty retailers from other artisanal fresh produce sectors underscores the value of expansion within the industry.
Originally aimed at cheese and delicatessen shops, the Specialty Food Trade Fair has expanded in recent years. With approximately 6,000 visitors last year, the 2024 edition promises to be another significant event. Expo Houten on September 30th and October 1st, 2024, provides the platform for this vibrant fair, with free access after pre-registration.
