State Secretary Martijn van Dam from the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs recently officially launched the ‘Seaweed for Food and Feed’ innovation programme. Over the next four years, the Dutch government is providing EUR5 million in funding for the development of a sustainable seaweed sector in the Netherlands. The subsidy will be invested in sustainable production and in making seaweed suitable for human consumption and for animal feed as a plant-based source of protein.
