Projects that contribute to a circular economy are being given more room within the Demonstration Energy and Climate Innovation (DEI+) funding scheme. Under a new funding category, projects can now also receive support for reducing CO₂ emissions outside the Netherlands. In addition, more biobased projects are eligible for funding.
The scheme supports projects that reuse raw materials and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. A new element is that projects resulting in CO₂ emission reductions outside the Netherlands are now also included. According to the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), many raw materials and products are sourced and manufactured abroad. As a result, part of the emissions reduction also takes place outside the country. Previously, those reductions were not taken into account under the scheme.
Projects that contribute to recovering and reusing critical raw materials now also fall within this funding category. RVO cites innovative recycling projects as an example.
The conditions for biobased projects have also been revised. Previously, only projects involving biopolyesters could make use of specific funding amounts. Now, all biobased projects can apply under this DEI+ category. The scheme’s standard maximum funding amounts apply. The aim is to support projects working towards scaling up to a first commercial production facility for biobased products.
Entrepreneurs can apply for the ‘Circular Economy and Large-Scale Biobased Projects’ funding category from 9:00 a.m. on June 16, 2026. The application period closes at 5:00 p.m. on December 17, 2026.
