The Dutch House of Representatives is sending a clear signal to the organic sector. With the adoption of two motions, efforts are focused on accelerating growth. The target remains 15% organic agricultural land by 2030.
The motion by Member of Parliament Laura Bromet (GroenLinks-PvdA) for an Acceleration Plan for Organic Agriculture has been adopted. The plan is expected to outline before the summer how the growth of organic farmland can be accelerated.
According to Bionext, this plan offers farmers and growers clear perspective and support in their transition. The organization responded positively to the outcome. “Bionext warmly welcomes this development, embraces the commitment shown by the House, and is pleased with the broad support from the House of Representatives.”
In addition to the acceleration plan, a second motion has also been adopted. This provides an additional €6 million in funding for the Vabiola scheme. The scheme is aimed at increasing the market uptake of organic agricultural products.
The current scheme of €3.7 million will be supplemented to reach a higher total budget. With this, the House aims to stimulate the sales of organic products.
Earlier discussions on the LVVN budget had already shown broad political support for organic agriculture. The adopted motions continue that direction.
Bionext sees this as confirmation that the House of Representatives intends to take concrete steps toward a more sustainable and future-proof agricultural sector. The focus is on financial resources, reduced bureaucracy, and stimulating demand from supermarkets.
