The Dutch company Meatable is significantly expanding its technological base through the acquisition of UK-based Uncommon Bio. The deal includes the company’s food-focused platform, along with patented technology, intellectual property, selected cell lines, and part of the staff.
Uncommon Bio will now concentrate fully on therapeutic applications, with a particular focus on lung diseases such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. A dedicated spin-out has been established for this purpose, and the company is hiring additional scientists to strengthen its research efforts.
Both companies have developed techniques that accelerate the conversion of stem cells into muscle and fat tissue. By incorporating Uncommon Bio’s technology, Meatable gains new options to broaden its production strategy. The company intends to apply the method to pork, beef, chicken, lamb, and potentially other types of meat.
