On 1 April 2014 (and this is not a joke!) I joined 23 OSV members on a visit to Peutz BV. The company’s laboratories for acoustics, wind technology and building physics made a great impression on all those present. It was revealing to see just what’s involved if you want to construct an estate of high-rise apartment buildings, or how air pollution is calculated when assessing the plans for a new bypass; how you can measure/influence the indoor climate of an office building or, the basics, how you can ensure that no rain leaks in. These are all examples of the work that the company carries out in Molenhoek, yet on a day-to-day basis you can’t tell, or it doesn’t even cross your mind, that test results have played a role. Peutz is specialised in preventing problems.
Use of the new fire laboratory is now in full swing too, where companies can get their products tested for fire resistance/fire safety, and they can also make the necessary adjustments before production starts. The tilting furnace measuring 4x3m is even capable of testing a glass roof (horizontally). It’s perhaps nice to know beforehand that window frames do burn quickly, even if the glass itself is heat resistant. And this is just a small selection of the many tests that are conducted there. All in all, it was a very worthwhile visit and space is far too limited to do it justice here.
Very recently, we visited Lukkien in Ede with members of Young Food Management (YFM). Lukkien Studio is situated alongside the A12 motorway and I’ve driven past the premises countless times so I was keen to take a peek inside, and so were the members of Young Food Management. The company is specialised in promotional photography, films and other digital marketing solutions such as e-commerce, mobile marketing and email marketing. From product photography to a recording studio, in fact every digital opportunity all under one roof – and what a roof: the largest of the company’s buildings is a massive 2,000 square metres. You can read more about our visit in the next edition!
See you soon!
