Lubricating at -40 °C? This keeps your equipment running

  • 23 June 2025

In chilled and frozen environments within the food industry, machinery is exposed to temperatures where standard lubricants fall short. Bearings, chains, and other moving parts must continue operating even at -40 °C or below. At the same time, strict food safety regulations apply. Choosing the right lubricant is therefore essential.

FenS supplies the Bechem product range, developed specifically for the toughest conditions in the food sector. These lubricants are suited for use in slaughterhouses, bakeries, chilled production facilities, and cold storage warehouses.

There are two standout options for bearings:

  • Berulub FG H2 EP performs reliably down to -40 °C and provides robust protection against wear and corrosion, even under heavy loads. Its H1 classification makes it suitable for applications without direct food contact.
  • Berulub FG H2 SL takes it a step further, remaining effective at temperatures as low as -45 °C. Thanks to its low start-up resistance, this grease is ideal for bearings in deep-freeze environments where reliable cold starts are critical.

For chains, Berusynth CC 5 H1 is a fully synthetic oil that continues to lubricate effectively down to -60 °C. This H1-certified oil is permitted in cases of incidental food contact and offers excellent adhesion and oxidative stability. As a result, contamination and wear are reduced, and maintenance intervals can be extended.

Using these specialized products brings both technical and hygienic advantages. Downtime is minimized, machines run reliably, and the risk of contamination is reduced—exactly what’s needed in an industry where food safety is a top priority.

With the right combination of low-temperature stability, reliable lubrication, and food-grade formulations, Bechem products offer a long-term solution for any refrigeration-related application in the food industry.

FenS provides tailored advice and supplies lubricants matched to the specific conditions of your production process.
