HAK aims to achieve B Corp certification in 2022

  • 12 January 2022

In line with its previously stated sustainability mission, vegetable manufacturer HAK aims to become an officially certified B Corporation, or B Corp for short, by 2022. The independent B Corp certification is an initiative of the American non-profit organisation B Lab, which was founded in 2006 and is considered proof that a company is realising social and sustainable impact, without sacrificing profit. In the run-up to its official certification, the company from Giessen has now amended its articles of association.

B Corporations are still a select group worldwide: to date, only 4459 companies have been certified, spread across 76 countries and divided into 153 sectors. Under the motto "using business as a force for good", B Corps are working together to create a better world for their employees, customers and suppliers, society as a whole and, last but not least, the environment.

HAK wants to join the 175+ Dutch companies with B Corp certification because, according to HAK CEO Timo Hoogeboom, this is a logical next step in the development the company has already started. Hoogeboom: "The B Corp philosophy is in line with our mission and our sustainability strategy called HAK's Green Kitchen: helping people eat more plant-based food with more vegetables and pulses, and more local and sustainable circular farming with compensation for the sustainable efforts of the growers. At the same time, we are challenged to continue to take new steps towards further CO2 reduction and to make cultivation even greener."
