Foodvalley and Food System Innovations (FSI) are joining forces to scale up Balanced Proteins. These products, which combine animal and plant-based proteins, are gaining increasing international attention. Through a new intercontinental partnership, both organizations aim to accelerate global adoption and support the food industry in further scaling.
The partnership was announced on March 31, 2026. Foodvalley and FSI are combining their expertise and international networks. The goal is to support the food industry in scaling Balanced Proteins. These products combine animal proteins with plant-based ingredients. They are also referred to as hybrid or blended products. The focus is on taste, nutritional value, sustainability, and affordability.
According to Tim Dale of FSI, these products offer a practical path forward. “Balanced Proteins represent a pragmatic path to building resilience in our protein sectors.”
Jeroen Willemsen of Foodvalley points to the international momentum. “What makes this partnership so compelling is the opportunity to connect the momentum we are seeing in Europe and the United States.”
Balanced Proteins are gaining traction within the sector. Companies are looking for ways to make protein supply more resilient. At the same time, they want to maintain taste and familiarity. Combining animal and plant-based ingredients offers several advantages. This includes improved texture, juiciness, and flavor. It can also enhance nutritional value and improve supply security.
Rising prices for meat and dairy are a contributing factor. In addition, interest in healthier and more sustainable choices is growing. This creates opportunities for collaboration between animal and plant-based protein value chains. The partnership brings together insights from Europe and the United States. This includes formulation, production, consumer communication, and nutrition. The joint network includes more than 80 organizations worldwide.
The partnership will be presented at Plant FWD 2026. This event will take place on April 8 and 9, 2026, at the Midden Nederland Hallen. Foodvalley and FSI will host an in-depth program focused on Balanced Proteins.
The program includes a keynote by Michael Fox. There will also be a Balanced Protein Gallery featuring blended retail products from the Netherlands. In addition, break-out sessions will be held with more than 25 industry experts. The role of AI and new technologies will also be addressed. A market analysis of Balanced Proteins in the Netherlands will be shared as well.
