As we all know, things can sometimes just fall into place – and I regularly experience that first-hand. Needless to say, you always have to take the first step yourself. I firmly believe that good deeds are good for your karma, but what does that mean in practice? For me, it means taking a genuine interest in the people around you – not only when you need something from someone, but always.
And that’s how it came about that, after asking an OSV member in passing how their building project was progressing, I was promptly invited to come and see for myself. It was fantastic to be taken on a tour by the proud owner and to see through his eyes how everything will look in the end. Our topics of conversation ranged from the choice of materials for the walls and floor to where the animals will enter the building, and from business and HR-related discussions to the routing through the company. There were so many learning opportunities, it was absolutely wonderful!
But coming back to my point about how things can sometimes fall into place…as we were walking around, the director suddenly had to speak to a representative of a supplier – let’s say from ‘Company X’ (I won’t name names here, it’s too much of a small world!). So I stepped away for a moment and spontaneously struck up a conversation with another visitor – who turned out to be the marketing manager at Company X. And that company had been on my list of people to call for a while. As it happens, they are looking for an alternative trade magazine to advertise with. Bingo – we scheduled an appointment straight away!
And that’s an example of how things can just fall into place sometimes.
