The House of Representatives requests the government, together with food producers, to draw up alternatives for earlier and more effective communication about product improvement, within the framework of European legislation. The Chamber wants to see this ultimately linked to the new approach to product improvement. The motion containing this proposal was adopted in the Lower House on Tuesday 19 April.
The proposers of the motion note that more and more health problems are arising because there is too much sugar, salt and saturated fat in processed products. They indicate that phased product improvement is necessary to achieve health gains and that marketing can help to stimulate the healthy choice. However, current European regulations limit the scope for communicating that products contain fewer additives. Therefore, in the new approach to product improvement, binding agreements will be made so that companies can communicate earlier and more effectively about product improvement.
