Agristo's new fry factory in Northern France

  • 29 August 2023

The Belgian fry producer Agristo is taking over the former factory location of sugar group Tereos in Escaudoeuvres, Northern France. With an investment of 350 million euros, Agristo is launching a potato processing factory from 2027, which, according to the French Ministry of Industry, will create 350 direct jobs. Before Agristo acquired the site, it employed 123 people.

The French Minister of Industry, Roland Lescure, recently visited the location and discussed the commencement of production for the second semester of 2027. Hannelore Raes, co-CEO of Agristo, emphasizes the historical significance of the 150-year-old site in the agri-food industry. She plans to continue this rich tradition in a modern, sustainable setting and aims to collaborate with French potato farmers.

For Agristo, France is a key market. The Northern French region, known for its excellent potato cultivation opportunities, and its strategic location near Cambrai and the future Seine-Nord canal, offer abundant prospects. Agristo foresees strong synergies with its existing Belgian locations in Wielsbeke, Harelbeke, and Nazareth.

Since its establishment in 1986, Agristo has set up in Belgium, the Netherlands, and India, with a specific production site in Tilburg. With an impressive annual turnover of nearly 900 million euros, the company currently employs about 1200 people.
