Yespers, known for its breakfast products, and FruitMasters Ingredients have formed a strategic partnership that marks a significant step towards a circular food system. This collaboration leads to the establishment of the world’s first Total Value Factory, where food waste is drastically reduced and social impact is increased. FruitMasters Ingredients will be the exclusive fruit supplier for Yespers' innovative factory, with a focus on fully utilising every part of the fruit, from seed to stem. Additionally, the factory will provide employment opportunities for people with limited access to the job market.
The partnership was symbolically signed in an apple orchard that suffered hail damage this summer, making the harvest unsuitable for regular sale. In the new Total Value Factory, set to open in The Hague on 16 October, the entire apple will be processed. This reduces waste from 30% to just 1%. From apple stems to seeds, everything is repurposed into products such as tea, oil, or powder. This ensures fair prices for growers and creates jobs, while maximising the use of valuable raw materials.
A key aspect of the partnership is the implementation of true pricing, which considers not only production costs but also hidden costs and benefits for people and the environment. This approach offers a clearer understanding of the real value of food. By reinvesting the shared value of the products back into the chain, Yespers and FruitMasters aim to create a more sustainable and transparent food system that benefits both producers and consumers.
