Wageningen Food Safety Research (WFSR) was launched on 1 June 2019. WFSR is the new institute for food safety in the Netherlands. The new organization is a merger of RIKILT Wageningen University & Research and the Laboratory for Feed and Food Safety of the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA). WFSR is part of Wageningen University & Research.

Unique knowledge institution

WFSR is a unique knowledge institute for food and feed safety in the Netherlands. The new institute can provide more effective and knowledge-intensive laboratory support for the NVWA and the national government. This merger will increase knowledge in the field of food and feed safety and food fraud. WFSR is a mainstay in incidents and crises for the NVWA, the Ministries of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality and Public Health, Welfare and Sport and plays a role in environmental incidents and (food) poisoning. In addition, WFSR functions as a national and European reference laboratory.
