Vion sells two German locations

  • 20 April 2026

Vion Food Group is taking further steps in the restructuring of its German operations. The company has reached an agreement in principle on the sale of two production sites in southern Germany. These concern the locations in Crailsheim and Waldkraiburg. With these intended transactions, Vion is responding to consolidation in the region and is choosing to work with parties that can continue operating the sites over the long term.

Sale to two parties

The Crailsheim site is intended to be transferred to Boeser Frischfleisch GmbH. Waldkraiburg will be transferred to OSI Europe Foodworks GmbH. Both transactions remain subject to approval by competition authorities and customary closing conditions.

According to Vion, the sale aligns with consolidation in southern Germany. The company is selecting parties with long-term commitment and the capacity to invest. The locations hold significant strategic value for the buyers and support their further development.

Production and employment

Crailsheim is active in both beef and pork processing. The site slaughters approximately one million pigs and 95,000 cattle annually. A total of 593 employees work at the location. Boeser specializes in processing and deboning pork for retail and the food industry. In Waldkraiburg, around 163,000 animals are slaughtered each year. The site employs 338 people. OSI has extensive international experience in meat processing and maintains long-standing relationships with foodservice and retail customers.

“Crailsheim and Waldkraiburg are both important locations for employees, farmers, and customers in the region. Our priority is to ensure a stable and future-proof foundation for these sites. Experienced partners with strong market access and industrial expertise are the best strategic fit. We are confident that both locations will continue to develop successfully and will remain a reliable part of the regional supply chain,” said Tjarda Klimp, CEO of Vion Food Group.

Follow-up process in Germany

Completion of the transactions is expected in the coming months. Until then, the sites will remain fully operational, and existing supply chains and customer relationships will be maintained. The evaluation of other German operations is ongoing. Vion is focusing on solutions that provide clarity for employees and ensure stable partnerships within the chain.
