Vion, the international meat processor, will cut 165 jobs in the Netherlands. This was communicated to part of the staff on Wednesday, August 21. Around 45 employees will face forced layoffs, while other positions will be eliminated through natural attrition and voluntary departure agreements, according to the unions. These measures primarily affect support departments and are linked to a reorganization in Germany.
Limited financial room for social plan
In recent months, Vion and the unions have been negotiating a social plan. Vion has emphasized that it has limited flexibility to offer more than what is legally required. The Vion FoodGroup, which operates in the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium, employs nearly 12,000 people. The company ended 2022 with a loss of 108 million euros on a revenue of approximately 5.3 billion euros.
