Verstegen Spices & Sauces wins EZK Energy Award 2022

The Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO) announced on 26 January 2023, that Verstegen has become the winner of the EZK Energy Award 2022. This allows Verstegen to call itself the most distinguished company in the field of energy saving, sustainable energy generation and use of renewable heat.

From gas to electric

Soon, Verstegen will be able to work without gas by converting gas-equipped processes to electric. In the office building, for instance, using heat pumps and LED lighting. But recently also in the production process, by purchasing and installing a special electric boiler. This was a complicated task, but fortunately not impossible. 

The jury's verdict

The jury said the following about Verstegen: "Verstegen Spices & Sauces has changed to a sustainable total concept. It has converted processes to electric step by step, together with the grid operator. As a result, Verstegen will be operating virtually gas-free by 2023. Verstegen's approach with the local grid operator is additionally more widely applicable."

Other nominees and awards

Verstegen was nominated together with Bakkerij Carl Siegert and De Noord-Hollands Bierbrouwerij. There was an honourable mention for Dorpsmolen Reduzum. The Municipality of Middelburg also received an Energy Award for municipalities.
