The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) launches the 'Kijk, vergelijk & kies' (Look, compare and choose) campaign on April 2, 2024. This initiative is a response to the recent legal implementation of the Nutri-Score and its growing presence in Dutch supermarkets. Through this campaign, the ministry aims to educate consumers about the benefits and application of Nutri-Score in making healthier food choices. Supermarkets like Albert Heijn and Jumbo already display the Nutri-Score logo on their own-brand products.
Nutri-Score serves as a tool to help consumers easily make healthier choices while shopping. Since the introduction of Nutri-Score, manufacturers have had the option to use this logo on their products. The condition is that all products of the brand must carry the logo, a process that has a timeframe of 24 months following registration.
The 'Kijk, vergelijk & kies' campaign is crucial in educating consumers about Nutri-Score. State Secretary Maarten van Ooijen emphasizes that while Nutri-Score is not a cure-all, it effectively aids in making better food choices. This is particularly relevant for products outside the Schijf van Vijf (Food Pyramid). The campaign, visible across various media channels, contributes to a conscious and healthy lifestyle.
