Last week, I was reminded once again why I enjoy my work so much. As program manager of the Food Tech Event, I have now spent more than three years at the heart of a world where technology, innovation, and food production come together. But above all, I operate in a world of people. Recently, I organized a Techcafé with quality inspection as the central theme within food. Events like these, large or small, always function as a kind of charging station for me: you look around, see new ideas taking shape, hear conversations that deliver just that one key insight, and notice how people strengthen one another without even realizing it. It is precisely this dynamic that convinces me time and again that true innovation begins with connection.
That same energy is what I try to translate into the Food Tech Event. Because connection is crucial. The challenges facing the sector—from staffing issues and automation to food safety and sustainability—are complex, but become far more manageable once people start sharing their knowledge. The best solutions do not emerge in silos, but in conversations between executives, management, engineers, operators, suppliers, and everyone in between.
And speaking of conversations. Recently, I visited Bolscher for a ‘Company in Focus’ interview. The starting signal of a series in which we will, in the period ahead, take a deeper look and showcase leading food production companies from the inside out. Bolscher is a great example of a company that actively reflects on the future of food production. Sustainability is the central theme there, and that naturally ties in perfectly with one of the important pillars of the Food Tech Event. I cannot reveal too much just yet, but one thing quickly became clear to me: making operations more sustainable is not only a necessity, it also creates strategic opportunities for companies that are willing to move forward.
In the months ahead, I look forward to taking you along in this column through my conversations, observations, and encounters. Because it is precisely there, among people, that innovation begins.
