On Wednesday evening, September 2nd, ambulances, fire department and police were dispatched to the Henri van de Bilt meat factory in Beuningen. After an incident with toxic substances, two employees with complaints of hyperventilation were transferred to the hospital. Several workers suffered from respiratory and eye irritation. More than 40 people were at work, but fortunately there were no serious injuries. It is unknown which substance was released. According to the spokesman, it is not ammonia.
The plant was in the news more often lately, the plant was temporarily closed because fire safety did not comply with the rules. Escape routes, emergency lighting, fire alarm system were not in order, as was the evacuation plan. This has been resolved in recent weeks and the plant has recently been approved and reopened.
The incident on Wednesday evening is, according to the security guard, unrelated to the fire safety problems of the company's new production hall.
