Tony's Chocolonely is no longer on the list of companies making slave-free chocolate. The American organization Slave Free Chocolate removed the Dutch chocolate maker because it collaborates with a large producer that uses cocoa produced using child labor. For Tony's, it is not a reason to stop the collaboration.
Critics believe that Tony's should not collaborate with Barry Callebaut, but the chocolate producer says that its mission is to make 100% slave-free chocolate the norm worldwide. To achieve this, the company wants to inspire other major chocolate companies.
Tony's says there is illegal labor in its value chain, but it has never claimed otherwise. The company is glad it has now come to the surface so it can be resolved.
