The first PPWR requirements are in effect. Is your packaging data in order?

  • 01 October 2026

The first requirements under the EU’s new packaging legislation (PPWR) have been in effect since August 12. This makes detailed, verifiable packaging data increasingly important.

Do you work with multiple types of packaging, suppliers, or retailer-specific formats? Then you know how much packaging information flows through your organization. That information is often scattered across different sources and systems, while customers may ask increasingly specific questions about details such as material, weight, composition, and recyclability.

The challenge, then, lies not just in collecting the right packaging data, but primarily in how you organize and use that data. Can you quickly find and verify information when a customer asks for it? And can you then easily provide it in the requested format? Your role in the supply chain also matters: not every organization has the same responsibilities under the PPWR.

That is where you have opportunities to streamline your processes. After all, manually collecting, re-entering, and reprocessing information from different sources takes a lot of time. Once your packaging data is well organized, you can identify where automation and AI can reduce manual work.

How can you organize your packaging data so you work more efficiently today and are prepared for the PPWR requirements still to come?
