It's almost holiday time. What are you gonna do? Are you going to stay in Holland, cross the border? What is it abroad that you don't have here? We always went abroad because it rained too often in the Netherlands in the summer. A hundred kilometres below Lyon, guaranteed good weather. In recent years, however, it has been far too hot there. So this year we had booked in Luxembourg and northern France... but with everything that's going on right now, we decided not to go.
The fun's off. Swimming-pools are only partly accessible, for the beaches and terraces you have to wait for a place and wandering around markets isn't something you do now either. And imagine that the virus strikes again; then you're stuck in the holiday country, because repatriation is out of the question. At your own risk. This year I'm going to enjoy my backyard and day trips in the Netherlands.
What is really important? I've been asking myself that question more often in the last few months. First of all, our health, we are all very much aware of that. And I'm glad I can just get to work in the morning. Everyone in the Netherlands has started doing projects, houses and gardens have been refurbished. We enjoy that every day. We spend more time outdoors. Because we couldn't eat out anymore, we went shopping at the fresh produce specialists and caterers.
Are those two weeks of holiday abroad really that much needed? Not at the moment. Stay in the Netherlands. Let's get our economy back on track together!
