Subsidy for energy and climate innovation from April

  • 03 March 2022

There are plenty of opportunities for subsidies for energy and climate innovation in the coming months. Four schemes are expected to open in early April for entrepreneurs, scientists and knowledge institutions. For financial support of innovations in the electricity sector, industry and the built environment. It concerns subsidies for different types of projects: from feasibility studies to pilot and demonstration projects.

DEI+

The Demonstration of Energy and Climate Innovation (DEI+) subsidy scheme is for pilot and demonstration projects. Applications are expected to be possible from early April. Parties can apply for projects within the same themes as in 2021. Example are: circular economy, renewable energy or energy efficiency and gasless houses, neighbourhoods and buildings.

TSE Industry

The Top Sector Energy Studies Industry scheme is also expected to open in early April. This scheme helps industrial companies to investigate the feasibility of innovative pilot or demonstration projects. New this year:

  • that companies are allowed to investigate the feasibility of investments in mature energy and climate innovations with a payback period of more than 5 years;
  • that the subsidy threshold for these projects has been lowered to a minimum of €25,000. This will give SMEs more opportunities.

TSE Industry R&D tender

The TSE Industry R&D tender is also expected to open in April and close in May. The content of this scheme has remained the same. It concerns research and development of, for example: process electrification, CO2-free heat systems, climate-neutral fuels and circular solutions in industry.

HER+

Finally, a new round of the Renewable Energy Transition (HER+) scheme opens on 1 April. It focuses on innovative projects to reduce CO2 emissions by 2030. CO2 capture and storage are also included. A budget is still available under the current HER+ scheme. Applications can be submitted until 31 March 2022. The conditions of the new opening round are expected to be the same.

VEKI

The Accelerated Climate Investments Industry (VEKI) scheme is awaiting budget and is not expected to open before the summer.
