The Netherlands is a global frontrunner in insect farming knowledge and innovation. But behind that progress is a growing group of suppliers. Start Insect brings together the technology and knowledge partners driving this sector forward. The goal: to strengthen insect farming as a key force behind a more sustainable food system.
Commissioned by Brightlands Campus Greenport Venlo, innovation agency Bluehub brought several Dutch entrepreneurs together under the new Start Insect label, building on the foundation of Insect Valley Europe. The first partners to join are Insect Engineers, Nijsen company, New Generation Nutrition (NGN), and Feed Design Lab. Together, they focus on promotion and pre-acquisition of international clients. A shared showroom will showcase the solutions these companies offer.
This showroom will be connected to two initiatives in the southeast of the Netherlands: the Fieldlab Circulair verdienen met insecten in de Peel and the OP Zuid project Insect Protein Production Expertise Center (IPPEC). Both are developing breeding and research facilities that can also serve as a showroom for Start Insect. Hans Corsten, representing the Fieldlab, explains: “By joining forces with Start Insect, we strengthen regional insect farming and contribute to sustainable food production.”
This collaboration helps secure the legacy of Insect Valley Europe for the future. Entrepreneurs are invited to join Start Insect and its related initiatives, with the aim of further advancing the sustainability of the food sector in the southeast of the Netherlands.
