St. Paul to acquire Royal ERU

  • 02 April 2024

St. Paul intends to acquire Royal ERU. This significant move, awaiting approval from the Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM), signals a strategic shift in the industry. The deal follows an earlier collaboration initiated between the two cheese giants in June 2023.

Growth in the cheese market

The merger of expertise from St. Paul and Royal ERU represents a milestone. It highlights St. Paul's ambition to further strengthen its leading position in the (melted) cheese market. Since their collaboration in June 2023, they have jointly acquired Kasi Food. This move brings together two powerful players in the cheese industry. The staff of Kasi Food, now part of Royal ERU, operates from the ERU facility in Woerden.

Acquisition Details

St. Paul plans to acquire all shares of ERU Group B.V. The completion of this acquisition depends on the approval of the ACM. This strategic merger promises to have a significant impact on the cheese industry. They aim to produce an extensive range of (melted) cheese preparations, relevant not only for the consumer market but also for the out-of-home and food industry sectors.

Vision for the Future

Dieter Kuijl, CEO of St. Paul, proudly discusses this development. According to him, this move will make St. Paul the largest (melted) cheese producer in the Benelux. The focus is on developing and expanding their (melted) cheese products, meeting the diverse needs of their customers. Maurits Sandberg, CEO of Royal ERU, sees this acquisition as an opportunity to further strengthen the brand. ERU, celebrating its 200th anniversary this year, is renowned for its quality spreadable cheeses.
