During a Food100 gathering on Friday, six Food Heroes of 2024 were honored for their exceptional contributions to a future-proof food system. These innovators, selected from the Food100 list, are working towards a healthier, more sustainable, and socially inclusive food chain. Their efforts range from innovative product development to activism and agricultural renewal, and their impact is impossible to ignore.
The Food100 list annually highlights the 100 most influential food changemakers in the Netherlands. It is divided into 50 young talents under 35 and 50 experienced impact makers over that age. This year, the jury focused heavily on diversity, explains jury chair Lisanne van Oosterhoud. Among the standouts are Collin Molenaar from Wakker Dier, who drives the protein transition with bold activism, and Iris van Beers, founder of Mixblik, who combines cultural diversity and social engagement with sustainability.
Among the experienced impact makers, Hille van der Kaa, CEO of Those Vegan Cowboys, stands out. Her work in precision fermentation is bringing cow-free cheese within reach. Equally impressive is Thibaud van der Steen of No Waste Army, who tackles food waste with scalable solutions. Farmer and biodiversity activist Marrit Kyung Ok Schakel also receives praise for her pioneering work in regenerative agriculture and cultural diversity.
By recognizing the Food Heroes of 2024, the Food100 initiative aims to inspire others to contribute to a fairer and more sustainable food system. The complete list can be found at food100.nl/2024.
