Verpact has launched a free e-learning course for producers and importers looking to make their plastic packaging more sustainable. In just 25 minutes, participants learn how to apply for a discount on easily recyclable plastic packaging and packaging made with recycled plastic. The discount can amount to as much as €0.60 per kilo.
This initiative falls under Tariefdifferentiatie Plastic 2.0. Companies that can demonstrate their packaging meets the criteria not only benefit financially, but are also better positioned to comply with the upcoming European Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). As of 2030, this regulation will impose strict requirements on the recyclability of packaging.
To close the plastic packaging loop, used packaging must be suitable as feedstock for new packaging. The easier it is to recycle a product, the better the chances of that happening. Verpact encourages this by offering lower fees for plastic packaging that is easily recyclable.
“This e-learning makes it easy to take concrete steps while immediately benefiting from financial rewards. By offering lower rates for easily recyclable plastic packaging, we encourage companies to take a critical look at their packaging,” says Hester Klein Lankhorst, Chair of the Board at Verpact. “Adjusting your packaging administration can be quite a task, but it’s a sustainable and future-proof investment.”
