The current milk market is in a state of turmoil. More and more milk or milk products of different origins are being processed into dairy products. The Dutch dairy sector notes that foreign dairy producers are increasingly riding on the good quality image of the Dutch dairy sector. This may raise questions about whether this is justified and transparent.
In fact, it happens that foreign milk or dairy products are exported to the Netherlands, repackaged or processed to eventually be marketed as a Dutch product. These dairy products do not originate from the Netherlands and the question of whether this meets the extra high quality requirements in force in the Netherlands, both legally and above the law.
To ensure that dairy products are produced from milk and milk products of Dutch origin, the new scheme 'Dairy product from Dutch milk' has been developed. The origin of Dutch dairy products and production based on Dutch quality standards can be guaranteed with the new scheme.
The new scheme was developed at the request of the Dutch Dairy Organisation (NZO). Qlip is the scheme owner of this chain certification. The assurance takes place in the entire chain, from the Dutch dairy farm, milk transport, suppliers, production to the final product. The first audit of a production site has already taken place. The new scheme will be available to Dutch dairy companies from September 2022.
The scheme focuses only on cow's milk. The product is a dairy product or a composite product of which at least 10% of the dry matter consists of dairy ingredients; and the product is intended for human consumption. The preparation of the 'Dairy product from Dutch milk' is carried out entirely by approved dairy processors based in the Netherlands. Only packaging of the final product may be carried out by companies established abroad.
