Puratos acquires Dawn Foods

  • 10 March 2026

The bakery ingredients market may soon see a major new combination. Puratos and Dawn Foods have signed a definitive agreement for an acquisition. Both companies announced this on March 10. The transaction still requires approval from regulators. If approval is granted, the acquisition is expected to close by the end of 2026.

Both companies have a long history. Puratos was founded in 1919, with Dawn Foods following a year later. Today, they supply ingredients and solutions worldwide to professional bakers, pastry chefs, retailers, and food manufacturers.

Two family companies with a long history

Puratos calls the agreement an important step for the company’s future. “Dawn Foods is a highly respected company with capabilities that complement our own. The agreement shows our ambition to further expand our footprint and capabilities within a space we know well, understand deeply, and have successfully developed over generations.”

Dawn Foods also points to the similarities between the two organizations. “Dawn has grown into a global business by staying focused on what matters most - our people, our products, and the customers we serve.”

Different areas of expertise

Dawn Foods is known for ingredients used in sweet bakery products. These include applications for donuts, muffins, cookies, and brownies. The company also develops product concepts and seasonal inspiration for bakeries.

At Puratos, the focus is more on ingredients and technology. The company has expertise in areas such as fermentation, sourdough, grains, patisserie, and chocolate. According to the companies, their approaches to innovation complement each other. Dawn Foods works strongly from applications and customer concepts. Puratos focuses more on technology and long-term research.

Global network

The production models also differ. Dawn Foods operates large-scale, standardized production. Puratos more often uses flexible production sites with a strong technological foundation. Geographically, the companies also complement each other. Dawn Foods has a strong distribution position in North America. The company is also active in Europe, AMEAP, and Latin America.

Puratos operates through a network of local subsidiaries in 87 countries. This allows the company to reach customers worldwide. Until the acquisition is formally completed, both organizations will continue to operate independently. Customer relationships and day-to-day activities will also remain unchanged for the time being.
