Progressively less centralised installation

  • 08 May 2018

The food industry is changing with a strong tendency towards decentralisation. By placing IO modules in the field and connecting entrances and exits to the control system with prefabricated cables, shorter installation times and simpler maintenance and service are possible. This saves on costs.

Parts of systems that potentially come into contact with foods being prepared must satisfy all cleanliness requirements. Materials cannot contaminate or be absorbed by the product.

Cables

The new, high-quality Murrelektronik Food & Beverage Pro cable series, made of polypropylene and V4A stainless steel (1.4404) meet all the latest requirements from the EHEDG and FDA and are therefore suitable for all uses in areas where food is prepared. The cables (PP line) have a broad temperature range, from -40 to +105°C. The cable sets can also withstand high-pressure cleaning (protection grade IP69K). The exterior is ice blue in colour, which helps make it clear when they are dirty.

IO modules

IO modules that are used in the food and beverage industry must also satisfy the highest hygiene design requirements. An example of this are the Cube67 HD stainless steel field bus modules with protection grade IP69K. These allow decentralisation up to zone 1.
