Communicating

Communication is always difficult. Reaching the outside world is tough, but doing it internally definitely is, too. I have my own communication agency. We organise interesting gatherings for the OSV, publish our own journals and relieve the clients of a great deal of the work. During the OSV golf day last month, it turned out that internal channels at a communication agency do not always work well either.

You spend the entire day at the ready for your clients in order to get the most out of their communication budget. You make opportune purchases and keep the printer, designer, photographer, journalist or video specialist on point. You stay on top of everything and communication with all parties is crystal clear.

But then you organise a golf day... The weather was warm—a little too warm to spend the entire afternoon out in full sun—so we decided to play a different game (Best Ball) in order to find our way over to the terrace with a cold beer a little bit faster. After receiving some responses from a few players, I reverse this decision at the last minute and we play a game of tried and true Stableford. Nobody knew that we were going to play a different game in the first place, except for my own colleague. Of course, I forgot to tell her what was going on. Her flight played Best Ball and ended up being disqualified.

I’m sure I’ll be hearing about it for a long time.

I tested the waters a bit when we were having drinks later on. Luckily, our internal communication is going well otherwise.
