Potato processor CêlaVíta declared bankrupt

  • 13 August 2025

Potato processor CêlaVíta has been declared bankrupt. On Tuesday, 12 August 2025, employees were informed of the bad news. For around 215 people, the coming period is filled with uncertainty.

Bankruptcy after prolonged difficulties

The company had been struggling with financial problems for some time. Even so, CêlaVíta continued supplying supermarkets, hotels, restaurants and institutions across Europe. Only recently, it announced a reorganisation, with plans to shift its focus more towards French fries production.

Uncertain weeks ahead for staff

The company’s own website states that approximately 215 people work in Wezep. What the future will hold for them remains unclear. In the near future, the company and the appointed trustee will meet to determine the next steps.

Production halted

Until then, little is happening on the shop floor. Current activities are being wrapped up, machinery is being shut down and production halls cleared. Employees are not required to come to work for the time being. Whether there are plans for a possible restart is not yet known.
