The six green networks of CDA, D66, GroenLinks, PvdA, Volt and VVD, working together in the Sustainability Consultation of Political Parties (DoPP), have reached an agreement on 50 building blocks for a sustainable and green coalition agreement. For the food and agribusiness the emphasis is mainly on the transition to sustainable agriculture and the promotion of healthy food.
The DoPP wants to send out a signal that a broadly ambitious coalition on sustainability can be achieved and that for climate, biodiversity and green economic recovery every month counts, including taking advantage of opportunities. With this agreement they want to offer motivation and inspiration for all parties negotiating a new government.
For the food and agribusiness, the main emphasis is on the transition to sustainable agriculture, through strong commitment to strategic innovations in the food chain. For example, extra investments must be made in high-tech and agro-ecological knowledge clusters, so that the Netherlands becomes and remains a leader in precision agriculture, breeding, and new cultivation methods and techniques for the protein transition (mariculture, cultured meat, insects and vegetable proteins). "Give short chains and accelerate the protein transition preference: more plant proteins, less from the tropics, and stop encouraging meat consumption." Furthermore, healthy eating should be stimulated; by paying attention to it in education, by fair pricing, and by making healthy food (such as fruits and vegetables) cheaper, and sugar and highly processed food more expensive.
