PlanetProof label sees modest growth

  • 30 May 2025

The On the way to PlanetProof label continues to evolve. In 2024, the certified acreage for plant-based production grew by 1.3%. Open field crops—such as potatoes, vegetables, fruit and ornamental plants—showed the strongest increase. Vegetable and fruit acreage rose by 2%, while ornamental crops saw an 11% jump. At the same time, the number of certified holders declined by 4%, indicating a trend toward larger-scale operations.

Strong foothold and geographic shifts

PlanetProof holds a solid position in Dutch agriculture. Over 70% of vegetable and herb acreage is certified, with fruit close to 50%. Clear shifts are visible among specific crops: acreage for broccoli, asparagus and onions is up, while potatoes, carrots and spinach are on the decline. A shift is also visible from certified acreage in the Netherlands to Spain, which grew by 2%, mainly due to an increase in lettuce production.

Growth in dairy, eggs and trade

In the dairy sector, the number of certified dairy farmers rose by 2.8%, while certified pastureland grew by 7.9%. The number of certified egg producers increased by 3.3%, representing 2.8% of Dutch laying hen farms. In the B2B sector, the number of certified trading companies climbed by 14%, and the volume of certified processed products rose by 23%. The number of certified supermarket chains remained unchanged. In 2024, the criteria for dairy were revised. The revision of plant-based standards is scheduled for 2025.
