Pieter Pot wants more packaging-free products

  • 03 October 2022

Pieter Pot is running a campaign during October 2022 to invite consumers as well as major players in the food industry to commit more to packaging-free products. Pieter Pot has been campaigning against the use of single-use (plastic) packaging since 2019.

With the campaign 'Pieter Pot invites you to a waste-free future', the online supermarket wants to highlight packaging-free consumption in Flanders. That way, a family can save as much as 292.5 kilograms of CO2 and 48.3 kilometres round trip to the bin in a year. Consumers are invited to commit to a waste-free future. Pieter Pot has also launched a mobile app in which customers can order even easier, more user-friendly and convenient.

Large majority of Flemings annoyed by disposable packaging

The vast majority of Flemings are annoyed by disposable packaging in the supermarket. Research earlier this year, conducted by iVox on behalf of Pieter Pot as part of May Plastic-Free, clearly showed that 73.7% of Flemings would like to see more packaging-free food in shops. They would especially like to see less disposable packaging around biscuits, sweets and chocolate (53.4%), pre-packaged meals (36.9%) and soft drinks and fruit juices (32.6%). 76.5% think there is too much packaging around products in general.

Packaging-free as industry standard

More than 8,000 Flemish people are already clients, and every glass jar or bottle delivered means one disposable packaging saved. Meanwhile, Pieter Pot has already saved more than 3 million disposable packages and does not hide its ambition to make the entire grocery chain packaging-free. To this end, it challenges producers to rethink their packaging. By engaging with suppliers and producers, exchanging practical tips and tricks, Pieter Pot hopes to bring about positive change. Because for more impact and less packaging, it is necessary that not only the consumer but also the supplier makes an effort. Together towards a waste-free future where packaging-free will be the standard.
